Our mission is to improve the education and care of young children in Vermont, because Vermont’s future starts with the children of today. Providing children with a sound start now will give them the skills they need as they grow into productive, contributory members of our communities. One of the main focus areas for VAEYC's work is public policy, with specific emphasis placed on bringing messages like this to leaders at both state and national levels.
Through NAEYC, we have advocates and spokespeople that champion early childhood issues at the national level. Here in Vermont, we work in collaboration with the Kids Are Priority One Coalition as one of 6 lead sponsoring organizations. By participating in the Coalition as a sponsoring organization, VAEYC provides one of the staff positions that comprise the Coalition, and we are actively engaged in decision making processes. As VAEYC's Executive Director, I am that staff person within the Coalition, with a primary function as Communications Coordinator.
Being a part of these larger groups means VAEYC members have a larger presence both on the state and national levels. As policy makers make decisions that affect the future of our children – including funding decisions – it is imperative your voice is heard! As VAEYC members you have two public policy "list serves" to which you can in order to stay informed
The NAEYC Children’s Champions listserve focuses on national policy making. You can subscribe to this list serve by clicking here.
The Kids Are Priority One Coalition listserve focuses on Vermont policy making. You can join this list serve by clicking here.
Being on these listserves requires no ongoing action on your part, but you are kept abreast of activities related to early childhood policy-making and you can decide if, when, and how you wish to take action.
Please join VAEYC's public policy efforts by becoming better informed, sharing your own thoughts, and taking action.
